Zucchini and Ham Rolls with Cheese

Delicate zucchini ribbons wrapped around ham and melting cheese, coated in golden breadcrumbs and air fried in just ten minutes. These crispy little rolls make a lovely warm snack or appetizer, and they are a clever way to get more vegetables onto the table.

What you'll need.

  • 1 zucchini
  • Sliced ham
  • Cheese, cut into cubes
  • 1 egg
  • Flour
  • Breadcrumbs

How to make it.

  1. Slice the zucchini into long thin ribbons with a peeler.
  2. Wrap each cube of cheese first in a piece of ham, then in a zucchini ribbon.
  3. Dip each roll in flour, then beaten egg, then breadcrumbs.
  4. Air fry for 10 minutes at 180°C (350°F) until crisp and golden. Serve warm while the cheese is melty.

My tips.

Choose a cheese that melts well but holds its shape, like gouda or mozzarella, and seal the rolls snugly so it stays inside. A toothpick helps keep everything together during coating.

Good to know.

Can I prepare them ahead?
Yes, assemble and coat the rolls a few hours in advance, then air fry just before serving.

Can I make them vegetarian?
Skip the ham and add a strip of roasted pepper or simply more cheese.

What dip goes well?
Sour cream with garlic and dill, or a mild tomato sauce.
