Crab sticks, crisp celery, white onion and green onion are tossed in a creamy dressing of mayonnaise, barbecue sauce, mustard and dried garlic. The combination is savoury, lightly smoky and crunchy, making a quick salad for lunch, sandwiches or a party table.

What you'll need.

  • 250 g crab sticks, chopped
  • 3 celery stalks, sliced
  • ½ white onion, chopped
  • 3 green onions, chopped
  • 1 tbsp mayonnaise
  • 1 tsp barbecue sauce
  • 1 tsp mustard
  • ½ tsp dried garlic
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste

How to make it.

  1. Cut the crab sticks into bite-size pieces.
  2. Slice the celery and finely chop the white onion and green onion.
  3. Mix the mayonnaise, barbecue sauce, mustard, dried garlic and pepper.
  4. Pour the dressing over the crab sticks and vegetables.
  5. Toss thoroughly and chill for 10 minutes before serving.

My tips.

Slice the celery thinly so its crunch does not overpower the salad. For a lighter dressing, replace half the mayonnaise with Greek yogurt.

Good to know.

Can I make the salad ahead?
Yes. Refrigerate it for up to one day.

Can I add eggs?
Chopped hard-boiled eggs are a good addition.

How can I serve it?
Serve it in lettuce cups, sandwiches or as a cold side.
